Building materials giant Tarmac has snapped up Welsh civil engineering contractor Alun Griffiths for an undisclosed sum. Tarmac says the takeover will strengthen its operations in civils and highways work. Alun Griffiths, which will continue to operate under its own name, is headquartered in Abergavenny and employs 700 staff operating out of six offices across Wales, the Midlands and the South-west. The firm operates across eight sectors including highways and bridges, rail and utilities and energy.
