10 Design rides high in China

10 Design, the practice founded by refugees from RMJM's Asian operation, is celebrating its first anniversary with new commissions worth £3 billion. These include the masterplan-ning of what could be China's next miracle city, Pingtan, and a vast science park in Shanghai. The practice, which began life last October with five staff, now has 10 directors and employs 85 architects in four offices. Its biggest coup to date is the 93ha masterplan for the centre of Pingtan, a new city being built on an island off China's east coast, halfway between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
