On the Parameters of ITU-R P.1546 Propagation Model for Dual-Polarization Links

As technology evolves, broadcast television is shifting to 4K and 8K resolution videos. To achieve the bit-rates required for transmitting this content, multiple-input-multiple-output communication systems have been tested. Some proposals employ dual polarization links. We employ field measurements to optimize and evaluate the adequacy of the parameters of the ITU-R P.1546 propagation model in a dual polarization setup. In order to improve the accuracy of the predicted electric field, the parameters are tuned for each polarization alone and for both together. Two different optimization algorithms are employed, the steepest descent and the Gauss-Newton method. Significant improvement on the agreement between predicted and measured link budgets is obtained by using the optimized parameters.
