Broadcast lobbyists have been trying to keep the FCC and Congress out of the retrans process, saying it is a marketplace negotiation and everything is working fine. Regardless of the timing of a Fox/Cablevision deal, that could be a harder sell after two weekends ago, when Cablevision subscribers in New York and Philadelphia had to go elsewhere to see victories by the Phillies and Giants (both New York and San Francisco sports versions).
