Sinclair is arguably the "poster" broadcaster for a company with lots of skin in the auction game, though it wants its stations to remain broadcast players after the dust settles and help the industry morph into multiplat-form players. Sinclair has spent a couple of billion dollars over the past two years buying stations, including eight in September just before the FCC voted to eliminate the UHF discount, which will essentially put an end to the shopping spree. Sinclair has repeatedly said it's not planning to put them up for auction to the highest wireless bidder. Sinclair wants to make sure that the FCC protects those stations' coverage areas in repacking, but it wants more than that from the FCC.
