Our viewers' desire to watch digital broadcasts of Hi-Vision programming, on large screens has resulted in the commercial success of large-screen plasma display panels (PDP) and LC TV sets. Larger TV displays have become a social trend in the past four years. In the future, larger display devices with even higher definition will be required for the ultrahigh-definition Super Hi-Vision video system that is currently under development at STRL. We seek to develop a high-definition, large-screen display system that has low power consumption, and one of the candidates is a field emission display (FED).
