Public Experiment on 'EN-Vision,' An Easy Relevant Video Retrieval System for Searching Video Materials in the NHK Creative Library

The NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories (STRL) has set up an experimental webpage designed for relevant video retrieval, on which a user can search for certain video material in the NHK Creative Library* by using several relevancies (http://www.nhk.or.jp/en-vision/). The conventional methods for searching for video materials use keywords and/or categories indexed with video data. However, these techniques are of limited value when a user is searching for a video that is difficult to describe in words, or based merely on a conceptual image of what he/she would want. Our recent progress in research has led to the development a relevant-video retrieval system called "EN-Vision," which integrates similarity retrieval technologies using video content descriptions, thumbnail image colors, texture patterns, and compositions.
