In November 2011, NHK' s development of satellite broadcasting was certified as an IEEE Milestone. This Milestone award reflects the high level of international recognition in the field of electrical and electronic technology that this effort has acquired over the twenty five years since satellites became practical. The satellite broadcasting section of the Museum of Broadcasting exhibited equipment, photographs, books, and documents from the era when the R&D was being conducted on satellite broadcasting.
