Technology to Detect Character Strings in Video Footage and Automatically Add Metadata

At program production, it is necessary to quickly find the target footage from a vast amount of video footage stored by the broadcasting station. At NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories, we seek to realize efficient video searching by automatically adding information about filmed locations and objects to video footage as metadata. To make this goal a reality, we have developed character string detection technology for extracting information about names of places and persons from signs and name tags captured on video.
