Smart Production: Technologies to Support Program Production by Utilizing Diverse Information

In recent years, rapid advances in artificial intelligence technologies have drawn attention. Since features of large-scale data can now be accurately extracted, a variety of tasks, such as identification of objects in images, speech recognition, speech synthesis, and text processing, can now be handled with higher precision than in the past. Through the processes of program production and archiving, broadcasting stations deal with large amounts of program-related video, audio, and text data. If artificial intelligence can be applied to automatically extract information useful to program production, then it will become possible to quickly and effectively support the production of programs and contents. At NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories, we call such program-production-support technologies "Smart Production." We are currently performing the following research on Smart Production.
