Advances in communication technology such as the internet are increasing the use of optical fiber and Internet Protocol (IP) lines for the transmission of materials used in live program production. Here, we describe R&D trends in such use, provide an overview of optical and IP transmission technology used in live program production, and discuss issues concerning 8K support and the use of IP. As R&D for addressing these issues, we also explain trends in the optical transmission of high-bit-rate 8K program material over long distances and IP production systems designed for increasing the efficiency of live program production using IP transmission technology.
