Namibia was the last African country to gain independence, granted on 21 March 1990 after a long guerrilla campaign by the People's Liberation Army of Namibia. Before that the country was ruled then administrated by its richer neighbour, South Africa, and before that, from 1884 to World War I, it was governed by Germany. Neither country did it any favours.
