PPG Industries' protective and marine coatings business has announced a restructuring of its manufacturing presence in Europe and reorganisation of its support functions, following its acquisition of Sigmakalon. The company intends to close its coatings manufacturing facility in Geldermalsen, Netherlands, next year, and consolidate production in its facilities in Amsterdam and Deurne-Borgerhout, Belgium. Approximately 111 people are employed at the Geldermalsen site. The consolidation will create approximately 50 positions in Amsterdam and approximately 15 in Deume-Borgerhout, says PPG. The Geldermalsen closure will be submitted for consultation to the Works Council of its Dutch subsidiary, PPG Industries Netherlands, and will be implemented at the end of consultation procedures. The sales forces will also be reorganised to offer a single face to customers.
