With the increase in the number of bridge structures identified globally as structurally deficient, combined, paradoxically, with the drive to achieve greater efficiencies - to do more with less - asset owners are under extreme pressure to manage, monitor, resource and maintain their assets most efficiently than ever before, at a minimal cost. The challenge to do this quickly, safely, and in a fiscally responsible manner is often further compounded by limited access to these structures; rural bridges are often remote and installed in difficult terrain, yet these same bridges are of utmost importance to local communities, just as bridges are to urban environments in how a bridge impacts commerce and the economy, and the quality of life.Modular steel bridging solutions offer a unique range of cost-effective options to help asset owners address some of these challenges.Built using trusted designs and manufactured from precision-engineered components, modular bridges are easily refurbished or re-designed to accommodate a change in use. At Mabey Bridge, we provide technical support and perform inspections of our structures, as with a recent bridge installed in the Middle East, which was reassessed to ensure it could accommodate heavier loads. We are also able to refurbish our bridges through the application of the innovative Mabey SmartEdge~(TM) System, which can be fitted, or retrofitted, to our panel bridges to provide the option for bespoke graphics, logos and colours. The first of these systems was delivered in Digarolla, Sri Lanka, and they are now found all over the world enabling unique local aesthetic customisation to any Mabey panel bridge.
