Robert Charette on Risk Management

In this issue, we're pleased to have robert charette's take on risk management. Bob is the author of Software Engineering Risk Analysis and Management and Applications Strategies for Risk Analysis. He is also the director of the Cutter Consortium Risk Management Intelligence Network and a Cutter fellow. Dealing with risk is all about making choices. As portfolio risk management expert Brian Hagen says, risk management should make a person "decision ready." In other words, it should arm a person or organization with all of the possible information involved in making a decision―a commitment of resources that cannot be revoked without some cost. The references that follow provide a broad view of risk management. They are divided into three general types: risk management and decision-making, the process and mechanics of IT risk management, and the practice of risk management.
