The S&P Bank Index and Keefe Bruyette Bank Index outperformed the benchmark S&P 500 for the first six months of the year, despite the meltdown of the world's banking system, according to a recent report. The S&P 500 lost 26.1% of its value between December 2007 and June 2008, while the S&P Bank Index lost just 1.5% of its value, and the Keefe Bruyette Bank Index gained 2.1%.
