Nhow that the new Chinese leadership has been in place for several months, after a decade of seemingly slowing reform under the leadership of President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, Beijing is starting internally to look livelier, particularly with a new commitment to reform and rooting out corruption. On the international stage, China's rising economic weight is likely to make an ever-greater impact. Since the onset of the global financial crisis in 2008, the country has played a growing role in international forums, and a crucial role in the wider economy as well, with the "Beijing Consensus" - incremental reform as opposed to a Big Bang approach - gaining in popularity.
