SCRATCH-BUILDING RECOGNIZED

Thank you very much for publishing my SE5-a Scout in the January 2012 issue's "Tailview" column. I had seen the preview on the ModelAir planeNews.com website but nothing can match seeing the real thing in print. It will be 20 years this month since I started construction of that aircraft, and really I had only just finished it last year when you noticed it at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome's RC Jamboree. I had since turned myself into a mostly ARF flyer and I don't think I would have completed it without my son Dave's encouragement. I have to congratulate you for recognizing it as being something other than just another Balsa USA kit. Most people took a quick look and passed it off a just another kit. You were one of the very few who recognized it as scratch-built. Encouraged by this result, I am now working on a Phil Noel (PN Designs) 88-inch wingspan Lockheed Constellation. I have it partially framed up, hoping to get it into the air in something less than 20 years!
