Four of top five finance books score YTD page gains in May surprise

Despite the fact that many of the country's highest-profile financial institutions are in turmoil, the financial sector of b-to-b media appears to be weathering the economic storm. So far, anyway. Indeed, according to May results from IMS-The Auditor, four of the five largest finance titles are in the plus column. Even so, it may be of concern that the top gainer in the field is DS News, which is dedicated to the default mortgage servicing industry-an industry that has had plenty of activity as housing foreclosures approach record levels. The title's May ad pages soared more than 60%. While no one is enjoying the housing crisis, where there is a need, b-to-b media can usually provide a service. Besides top gainer DS News, Research, Registered Representative and Financial Planning-all scoring more than 300 ad pages in year-to-date activity-are all up 9.5% or more in ad pages through May. Among the largest titles IMS-The Auditor tracks, only Financial Planning was down, and that by a relatively modest 4.3%.
