Learning from the Past

When I think of the 1970's I come up with the usual stuff: bell-bottom pants, my magic 8-ball, "The Love Boat" on Friday nights, and the Dallas Cowboys becoming "America's Team". Of course, I was a pre-teen living in Texas during these years, so my list should be viewed accordingly. Little did I know that as a future woman in science, my career possibilities were being influenced by bold women who not only recognized the dismal climate for women in academic science at that time, but actually did something about it.
