In 2013, women earned over 46% of all doctorates awarded in the United States, up from 33% in 1983, and only 11 % in 1970. It is easy to say we've made great strides against overt gender discrimination, but the greatest challenges still lie ahead. Because despite the advances we've made in efforts to attract women to STEM fields at early career entry points, retaining and promoting women into leadership positions-in all sectors-is not on par with those efforts.
