Get Out There and Look: The Strategy of Katherine Outland

Eight years ago, at the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair, an AWIS representative awarded young Katherine Outland for her engineering project on materials science. Now, at age twenty, she is a rising senior at Johns Hopkins University, where she studies both electrical and biomedical engineering. In past summers, Oudand has worked for the Naval Research Laboratory and the Biomedical Engineering Department at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has researched the application of engineering in childbirth, including the management of shoulder dystocia. Outland is currendy employed by the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, DC.
