Spring Into Action!

Putting together this issue in the midst of the reinvigorated debate of gender and science, I thought it a perfect time to highlight the achievements — some recent, some historic — of women scientists. In the following pages, we gather the stories of a two-time Nobel prize winner, a newly appointed chancellor at a large institution in California, an astrophysicist with an eye (and ear) to the heavens, and a rising star in RNA biology.
