A ceremony at the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) facility in Bangalore on September 23 marked the handover of the first of 17 BAE Systems Hawk Mk 132 Advanced Jet Trainers to the Indian Navy. HAL plans to deliver a further four before the end of this fiscal year and the remainder over the next three years. The 17 Hawks for the Indian Navy are part of a 57-aircraft contract announced on July 29, 2010, which included 40 for the Indian Air Force. India is currently the largest operator of the Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer, with 123 aircraft ordered to date, of which more than 70 have been delivered to the Indian Air Force (IAF). A potential order for another 20 would include Hawks for the lAF's display team.
