When Monarch Airlines ceased trading, the CAA was tasked with repatriating the holi-daymakers already abroad. It resulted in a two-week flying programme - running from October 2 to 16 - using more than 60 chartered aircraft to operate 567 flights from 30+ airports. In what was the UK's biggest peacetime repatriation, the CAA returned 83,875 travellers from overseas within the timeframe, with 98% flying home on the same day as their original flight.
