Taking its name from the Gaelic for air tours or air journeys, Aer Turas was launched in September 1962 as a charter taxi business between the Republic of Ireland and the UK, using a single de Havilland DH.89A Dragon Rapide, registered EI-AML. The following April, the biplane was replaced with another classic aircraft, a Douglas DC-3, EI-ANK, acquired from Nigeria Airways. Trading was suspended in October 1964 and the DC-3 was sold.
