ONE MANS OPINION THE POWER OF REPORTING: DOCUMENTING ARFF STAFFING DATA

(Photo Above) Initial after-naction media reports stated that in the frenzy of the nincident, assets and personnel found themselves novertaxed and limited in their scope and abilities. The nreason that this is relevant issue for this article is that nit is in stark contrast to David, Castellan, and Fran-ncis’s (2011) report regarding proposed ARFF stan-ndards here in the United States. The findings of the nreport stated that there existed no empirical data that nARFF agencies have been overtaxed during specific nhistorical incidents both here in the US and abroad. nHowever, anecdotally, in ARFF discussion boards nand chat rooms, this is simply not the case. David et nal. (2011) were not wrong in their summation; the re-nsearch that went into the report utilized written reports nand post-incident data to drive their conclusion. What nDavid et al. did not have, because it did not/does not nexist, is data from emergency responses stating that nARFF agencies were overtaxed during incidents.
