Austin Jazzes Up Airport With New Stage For Live Music

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will take the wraps off its fourth venue for live music — Waterloo Records store — on Sept. 14. With the addition of the stage at Waterloo Records to those at Lefty's Bar & Grille, Earl Campbell's Sports Bar and Highland Lakes, the airport will feature 11 acts a week, airport spokesman Jim Halbrook said. Live music at the airport runs the gamut from swing and big band to jazz, rock and folk, he added. The airport built stages for live music into its blueprint when it opened in 1999, Halbrook said. "The airport should reflect the nature of Austin, and Austin is the live music capital of the world," he said. Music has "been part of the airport since the get-go," he added.
