摘要

Modern boardrooms are often challenging acoustic environments. Architects design spaces that are light and open; however, these spaces are often rife with highly reflective materials. Every material, including people, contributes to the reverberant field of a room though windows, glass partitions, tables, computer and tablet screens, hardwood floors and ceilings are the main culprits, offering little to no absorption of audio waves. A common acoustical problem that degrades speech intelligibility is flutter echo which occurs when two reflective surfaces within a room are parallel, such as glass partitions or windows, causing sound waves to bounce back-and-forth. In contrast to reverb, even if reflections arrive at the listener in under 50ms, the reflections' repetitive nature makes them audible as a flutter.
