» Falling costs and shrinking pixel pitches are helping bring LED into the mainstream professional AV space. People's perception of where LED technology should live is shifting. It's now more common for it to be considered for applications beyond DooH, advertising, stadia, broadcast and live events. "We're now installing indoor LED into auditoriums (replacing projection-based technology), corporate receptions and retail stores," claims David Sumner, product manager, digital media services, AVMI. Videowalls create an overall image that is larger than is possible with a single display and more cost effective per square inch. Linking together multiple displays inevitably means that the overall end image is interrupted by bezels and slight differences in colour and contrast need to be adjusted for consistency across the finished image. The key innovation by videowall manufacturers has been to reduce the size of the bezel to minimise this interrup- tion. Advanced calibration 'out of the box' minimises the differences in colour and contrast, reducing the need to spend time calibrating the videowall on site and post installation.
