Computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the flow modelling and analytical software, is in line for two big developments that will strengthen its increasing role in automotive styling and engineering design. As the algorithms, the complex formulae used in computer calculations, are refined, future CFD packages could be integrated into other engineering programs to create a seamless suite of computer-aided engineering (CAE) software and there is likely to be the introduction of a radically different type of CFD.
