The wizard of the bespoke car

Franco Sbarro celebrated an anniversary this year — the 1998 Geneva Motor Show coincided with 40 years of working on motor cars. At this year's show he unveiled the Peugeot Crisalys V6, fulfilling his long-time ambition to create a real sports car. Sbarro was born in 1939 in southern Italy. A self-made man with no formal design training, he always had a passion for drawing. "On leaving school I felt more like a mechanic who managed to get an education," he says. In fact he did become a mechanic, for a short while. Soon after, he left to work in Switzerland, getting involved with motor racing and finally vehicle design.
