GM lifts the bonnet

Over the years General Motors has been notoriously tight lipped about future model information or technological developments. This policy has led GM to have an image as a dull, conservative company, when quite often the opposite has been true. In contrast, rival car companies, such as Chrysler, have rebuilt their reputations as innovators by carefully taking the media into their confidence. But now there are signs that GM is changing its tactics. In the bid to show the world that indeed there is a great deal of interesting activity behind the scenes, GM has given us an unprecedented look at global powertrain strategies and technologies. Port deactivation, displacement on demand, direct injection systems, CVTs and other ideas, old and new, were all on the table literally for discussion.
