Basic problems are considered that arise in transmitting family name groups in one language by the means of another. Practical transcription is used as a method for the purpose but requires a unified phonetic table for multilanguage transcription. The mathematical principles are also given for transferring the words of one language to another, which can be used as the basis for software for multilanguage machine transcription.
