In the 1970s, there were many problems such as air-pollusion, oil crisis and incremental traffic accidents, all of which gave a negative impact on the demand in the automobile market. Under such social and market situation, the realization of an automobile with new technology to solve these problems was in social requests. This is the development story of the Charade of the first generation that was projected challengingly to overcome these problems. The Charade received the Car of the Year for Japan Award in 1977 and attracted the global attention.
