Hugo. MN―In many ways the new modular plant called Minnesota Union Builders marks a series of significant changes in the way the modular world works. The name alone, Minnesota Union Builders, illustrates a new departure which most segments of this industry, even a few years ago, would consider 'unthinkable.' However. Ron Nyberg, vice president product development & technology, commented, "The name simply signifies a new level of cooperation between unions and factory-built housing. In fact, the trade unions are financial investors in this operation and 15% of the workers will be journeymen also serving as instructors for the production workers." Fully 10 trade unions are involved in the Minnesota Union Builders operation (see adjoining box) and four union officials sit on the company's 'Board of Governors,' the company's term for directors.
