Green, Recycled, Energy-Efficient, No Toxins, Mold or Bugs: Rastra - Is This the Ideal Building System?

Scottsdale, AZ-The Rastra~(~R) Building System is a sustainable, energy efficient, 'green' insulating concrete form (ICF) system produced out of recycled consumer materials. As an ICF system it provides high thermal insulation, high sound attenuation and fire resistance. Although it has 'been around' for 30 years, it may also be a building system whose time has come (see AIH/SBN (AB), March, 1958, p. 8). Rastra panel, the main building component, is produced from recycled plastics, such as expanded polystyrene mixed with a cementitious binder. The combination produces a material officially called Thastyron, which provides the framework for a grid of reinforced concrete that forms load-bearing walls, shear walls, stem walls and other building elements.
