Specialist Icon, Inc. Likes the Reward Wall System: ICFs Provide the Real Deal for Military Building

Pinellas Park, FL―A Florida Army Reserve project had stringent requirements for its new 195,000-sq. ft. building that called for an unusual solution. A major consideration was force protection. William Murray, architect on the project, represented URS Corp., one of the largest engineering/architecture firms in the nation. Murray had the job of selecting the systems for the Florida Armed Forces Reserve Center, located near St. Petersburg. He had to accommodate criteria that included budget, force protection, energy efficiency and green building guidelines. Murray says, "The building had strict guidelines that it be protected from blasts. The size and type of building led to a need for masonry to be steel reinforced on almost every course. The cost of installing that would have pushed us over budget."
