MHRA, PATH Launch Research on Lean Manufacturing

New York, NY—The fundamental construction techniques in the modular and HUD-code housing industry have remained fairly constant in the past 50 years. While materials and methods of manufacture have evolved incrementally, progress has been slower in the area of improving efficiencies in basic production processes and materials handling. A federal/industry research effort now underway is examining how lean manufacturing techniques can increase efficiencies and reduce costs. Lean manufacturing focuses on strategies to eliminate the waste from a process, addressing areas such as inventory levels and process cycle times. These techniques have helped catapult production efficiencies in more highly capitalized industrial sectors, notably automotive manufacturing.
