Mrs B and I hosted the recent Christmas dinner, as is our custom. It is entirely my wife's idea because most of the guests are from her side of the family. "All you have to do is organise the drinks," she says. What she conveniently chooses to ignore is that mine is by far the most difficult task-the choice of what to drink before, during and after the dinner is a source of great angst. If I choose to offer some nice wines for my own enjoyment, there is the strong possibility that the magnitude of my enjoyment will be greatly diminished by the sight of some relatives who treat good wines as if they have come from a bag-in-box.
