Museums and public value: creating sustainable futures

'This book interrogates the concept of public value from the perspective of museums', according to the editor, and is therefore geared towards a museum-oriented readership. True, some museums do possess libraries for staff and the public, but this work does not address this linked service. Everything has a price, but does everything have a value? What has a book on museums to do with libraries? Do libraries have a value? In fact there is no entry under 'libraries' in the index, and only one of the papers in this collection actually touches on the second and third questions - the chapter titled 'Museums and Public Value: A US Cultural Example' by Marsha Semmel of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Through the IMLS the US government provides support and technical assistance to community services throughout America, as places of culture and learning.
