The aim of this book is to bring together the terminology relating to functions performed by libraries and related organisations. It focuses on specialised vocabulary and avoids common terms, such as 'budget' or 'computer', that are important to the profession but not specific to it. It also avoids general management terms, such as 'performance appraisal', that library staff are likely to be familiar with regardless of the type of library in which they work.
