Successful strategies for teaching undergraduate research

'What are we teaching when we teach research skills in colleges and universities?' asks the author. Are we 'empowering students to use, create and evaluate information in ways that will help them achieve their goals' in life, or are we providing quick-fix strategies to help them 'get through' the current assignment? In this volume Deyrup and Bloom have assembled a panel of experts committed to assisting librarians and lecturers in designing research assignments which introduce students to the processes and challenges of scholarly research, and in providing the resources which will result in the writing of a well researched paper as well as getting through the course.
