摘要

In the wake of global oil and coal price hikes over the past year, the Philippines' heavy dependence on imported oil and coal has become high on the radar of the government, especially since coal and oil-fired plants are major environmental concerns on an international as well as local level. To match economic growth, the Philippines' demand for electricity is expected to increase from 48.467 GWh in 2002 to 111.210 GWh in 2013. The country's primary energy mix is heavily centered on imported fossil fuels, which accounted for some 52 percent of the total energy supply in 2002. Coal-fired account for 27 percent of total power generation, while oil-based power generation accounted for some 14 percent of the total in 2003.
