ENFORCER Series Amphibious Support Ships SIGMA Naval Patrol & Frigate Series Flexibility in selection of ship size to optimise cost

Naval acquisition programmes mainly focus on patrol vessels and multi-purpose support ships, while at the same time searching for ship size, configuration and number of ships within budget. NATO navies project for economic reasons patrol functions onto ships less costly than frigates. The objectives are reduction of manning, operational cost and maintenance effort. The support ships for these navies, on the other hand, tend to become larger in size and more in number.
