Despite the liberalisation of the retail electricity market beginning in 2018, all power distribution infrastructure in the country is still owned by SP Group, meaning that SP Telecom will have unfettered access to underground power ducts, where it will roll-out fibreoptic cable. SP Telecom has already leveraged SP Group’s transmission infrastructure to deploy fibre to key datacentres and numerous commercial districts, providing greater connectivity for businesses to adopt advanced applications such as cloud and edge computing. The company intends to provide nationwide access within five years, and we expect it to first focus on key buildings within the central business district (CBD) followed by major industrial complexes in the east, west and north of Singapore.
