MIIT clears CBN for 5G tests on 4.9GHz

China's telecom sector watchdog the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has issued a test frequency license to China Broadcasting Network (CBN, also known as China Radio and Television), allowing the operator to trial 5G technology on the 4.9GHz band, Chinese language news portal C114 reports. Under the terms of its licensel application, CBN will deploy 5G networks in 16 cities, including Beijing. The cable operator received a commercial 5G license alongside the nation's existing cellular providers - China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom - in June last year. The company is planning to use a combination of spectrum in the 700MHz and 4.9GHz bands primarily to provide a suite of interactive broadcast and TV services, although the company has also set its sights on the launch of mobile communication and Internet of Everything (loE) services.
