Many Android-based smartphones likely to be sold for under $100 in China

Taiwanese handset equipment makers believe that several Android-based smart-phones will soon cost less than $100 in China starting in 2011. Sources suggest that apart from ST-Ericsson, Qualcomm, and MediaTak, various other integrated chip makers are offering cheap solutions. These include China-based HiSilicon Technologies and Taiwan's Infomax Communication, among others.ICs of Android-based smartphones cost $8-$15, which would lead to assembly costs of $30-$50, and eventually to retail prices of below $100.
