Alcatel-Lucent to roll out IP-based mobile backhaul network for SK Telecom

Alcatel-Lucent has announced that it has been selected to deploy an IP-based mobile backhaul network to support LTE-Advanced services for South Korea's largest cellco by subscribers, SK Telecom (SKT). According to the French-US vendor, the Internet Protocol/ Multiprotocol Label Switching-based (IP/MPLS) mobile backhaul solution, which will be deployed in October 2013, will link the operator's cell sites, with the new solution allowing SKT to support Long Term Evolution (LTE), LTE-Advanced (LTE-A), WiBro (the regional variant of WiMAX) and Wi-Fi mobile data traffic.
