Skill in STN LCDs Keeps Nan Ya on Right Track for Displays in Mobile Terminals

Taiwan's industry for super-twisted nematic (STN) LCDs dates to the first half of the 1990s. Some of the first names in Taiwan LCDs included Nan Ya Plastics, Chunghwa Picture Tubes, Ltd., and Wintek Corp., building on the foundations laid by government research organizations like the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and the Electronics Research and Service Organization (ERSO). Japanese companies, including Sharp Corp., Seiko Epson Corp., and Hitachi, Ltd., also helped prepare the way for the start of this industry in Taiwan.
